 Won't Start: Fuel Pump Or Something Else?

Question: I just replaced the fuel pump on my '99 Ford that has the V-10 engine in it. After I put it all back together, I started my truck to make sure it worked, and it fired up just fine. The next morning I went out to start it up and as quickly as it started up it died again, so I dropped my fuel tank to double check all the connections and everything is just fine. Oh by the way I made sure and put ten gallons of gas in the tank before I tried to start it, so it does have fuel.
Answer: Since the vehicle starts and then quickly dies, and the fact that it ran right after the pump was put in I am thinking it is not a fuel pump issue. Did you replace the fuel pump because of the same problem, or was it a complete no start? Does the ambient temperature affect the starting at all? I do need some more information to help you though. If you "feather" the accelerator, will the vehicle continue to run? If yes, I would suspect the problem to be a sticking IAC (Idle Air Control). If not I would suggest taking a fuel pressure test to determine the volume of fuel to the fuel rail. If you respond with more information, I will try to assist you in the diagnosis.
