Sales Auto Show In New York City: It's Showtime In The Big Apple
Posted by carsandtrucks on Saturday, February 21 @ 13:11:03 PST

I just returned from a trip to the New York City Auto Show. For a car enthusiast a trip to an international auto show is similar to a city living fly fisher finding himself on a remote trout stream in Maine. Every sight and sound is a unique experience. From the exotic cars like Lotus, Ferrari, and Lamborghini to the daily transporters like Ford, Toyota, or Chevrolet, we had the opportunity to see the latest models as well as concepts the manufacturer has visions of for the future. Our tour of the nameplates took us about 4 hours of non-stop gazing. We looked at luxury, sporty, economy minded, alternative fuels, and retro looking. One of the most economical of the bunch is the smart

for two economy car. This is the little 2-person vehicle that achieves upwards of 60 mpg. These cars are the rage in Europe where narrow roads, limited parking and high gasoline prices mandate outside of the box thinking when designing and producing an automobile. I have to wonder, even with our gas prices currently hugging the $3.50 per gallon range, is America ready for the smart car. Some think so as there are dealers beginning to carry them. If you want to learn more about this economical transportation, just Google 'smart USA.' You will be able to find answers to all your questions and where the dealers are located. When it comes to retro looking Chevrolet led the way with the 2009 Camaro. The show model was the concept production, but the attractive young woman introducing the Camaro to the crowd assured us there was little change in the actual production model. Chevrolet says you can expect to see this car on the dealer’s lots in the first quarter of 2009. If you were a fan of the Camaros of 1968 and 1969 you will surely love what General Motors has done with this reintroduction of its popular muscle car. After viewing hundreds of badges I went looking for my personal show favorite. The Mercedes SLR. In my mind this is the most impressive automobile produced today. SLR stands for "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing) and this surely lives up to its name. This 650-bhp sports car will make any car enthusiast's heart beat like hummingbirds. The stats on this beast are 62 mph from a dead stop in 3.6 seconds and 124 mph in 10.2 seconds. This car is rated among the top performers in the world and compares to the likes of the Porsche Carrera GT. Top speed is at breath taking 225 mph. It said that the SLR is the fastest automobile in the world equipped with an automatic transmission. Top speed is 225 Mph. With a starting price of $495,000 and a limited production of only 500 per year I will have to wait a while before I get to slip behind the wheel of this magnificent roadster. If you are a car enthusiast and an international auto show is within a day's drive of where you live, I strongly recommend you take it in. From the concept designs to today’s most family orientated wagon or sedan or to the dream car like my Mercedes SLR there is something there for everyone to see.
