Sales Buying Tips: Choosing The Right Truck
Posted by carsandtrucks on Tuesday, December 11 @ 06:20:50 PST

Every man and many women know the value of a truck. A truck gets your trash to the dump, the landscaping materials to your yard, your boat to the lake, and everything in between. Today’s trucks have all the creature comforts of a luxury sedan. Power windows, power seats, air conditioning, and sunroofs are just a few of the options you will find on a modern truck. In fact, there are so many options available that you may have a difficult time choosing the right truck for you. The first thing to consider is size, because in a truck it does matter. Trucks fall into full size and compact categories. A full size truck gives you

maximum cargo space. If carrying material is your need, think full size. Compact trucks offer smaller carrying capacities but deliver better fuel mileage. There are four door models, cab and a half models, and standard cab models. These configurations are offered in both full size and compact trucks. You have to figure out what will work best for you. Do you often have more then one passenger? Do you have a need for interior room for personal items like laptops, special tools, briefcases, etc. that you want to secure behind locked doors? Then you should be thinking extended cab or crew cab. The next consideration is drive train - two wheel or four wheel drive. Again, it depends on what you are using the truck for and where you are using it. If it is a commuter truck that gets weekend duty of dump runs, then a 2 wheel drive may be all that is required. On the other hand if you are pulling a 25' boat out of the ocean you will want a 4x4. What is the difference between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton? The short answer is suspension capacity. How much can it safely carry? The key here is knowing what truck will fit your needs. You don't need a four wheel drive 3/4 ton diesel powered pick-up truck to haul your pop up camper. But, you do need it if you are hauling a fifth wheel travel trailer. I recommend you sit down with a piece of paper and pencil and make a list of what uses you have in mind for a truck. Ask yourself is this truck going to be my primary means of transportation. If so you will likely want the same options your current vehicle has. If it is going to be a "weekender," then it is likely a used truck will be better suited for you. One thing is for certain there is a truck out there for every need and every purpose. The tough part is selecting the right one for you. Do your homework and you will find the right size truck and options for your needs.
