Sales Salvaged Auto Parts: Sometimes A Real Money Saver
Posted by carsandtrucks on Sunday, November 11 @ 15:47:59 PST

Salvaged auto parts can be a real money saver for the average Do It Yourselfer. When a vehicle has been involved in an accident that deems it a total loss, past its prime in dependability, or is lost due to a flood it often ends up in a salvage yard. Even with major accident damage as much as 70% of the vehicle can be salvaged in parts. These recycled parts can save you as much as 50% off the retail price from a parts store or dealership. Salvaged auto parts are not hard to find. Most areas of the country have several salvage yards to choose from in or around your hometown. And of course you can search the web for used auto parts and have them shipped right to your door. Salvaged auto parts usually come with some warranty. Make sure you inquire from the seller what warranty terms are

available. Some salvage yards offer extended warranties that you can purchase. This is good idea if you are buying an expensive assembly like an engine or transmission. It is important to know the age and mileage of the vehicle the part is coming off from. The higher the mileage and the older the vehicle the greater chance of buying a salvaged part that will fail soon after you install it. For the most part my experience with used auto parts has been favorable. With the prices of maintaining and repairing your vehicle increasing salvaged parts are an alternative. Just be sure you protect yourself from getting sold junk parts. You can do this by inquiring about the sellers return policy. If you are told all sales are final, find another salvage yard. If you are not a do it yourselfer and your vehicle is in a repair shop you will find some shops will install salvaged auto parts if you ask them to.
