Service Starter Problems: How To Remove Your Car Starter
Posted by carsandtrucks on Wednesday, July 22 @ 13:57:59 PDT

Question: I have a 2003 Mercury Sable that needs a new starter but the problem is that I can't get the starter loose. I have the 2 bolts out but the starter wont budge. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

Answer: The problem of removing the starter is not unusual. What is happening is the guide pin that aligns the starter to the bellhousing is holding the starter in place. Usually by grasping the starter and shaking the daylights out of it will free it up enough to release it. If that fails, tap the starter with a hammer from a couple of different directions. Thank you for visiting carandtrucktips.com. I hope we are able to help you keep your 03 Sable on the road.
