Sales Car Buying: Negotiate With Confidence
Posted by carsandtrucks on Thursday, October 11 @ 05:46:37 PDT

The most important element in negotiating a new or used vehicle purchase is being prepared. Keep in mind that the dealership is going to make a profit on the sale of the vehicle. They have right to do this, that is why they are in business. However, you can influence how much profit they are going to make from you. You accomplish this by being in control of the sale from the start. Never buy on impulse. When the salesman ask "are you buying today?" (and believe me he will ask) your answer should always be no Also, never tell how much you can afford per month. This gives the salesperson the opportunity to adjust the price of the vehicle to fit your payment. Sometimes this means

the price will go up. In short keep personal information guarded until you are ready to buy. If you are trading a vehicle keep that out of the negotiations until later. When the salesperson ask if you are trading your current vehicle tell them you are planning on passing it on to a family member. Once you have negotiated the best price then reintroduce the trade in. If you are buying a used vehicle ask to see the work the dealership performed to prepare the vehicle for sale. The more they did the less you will have to do after taking ownership.
